Live in the moment...

Live in the moment,
slowing down a little,
enough to remember,
it's impossible to reach perfection,
too often your thoughts are fueled with self-criticism,
can't let them see you cry,
because only then if you're weak,
can they get near enough to cause you hurt,
must always be keenly aware,
gripping life on the tips of your toes,
looking for any threat,
trying to prove vulnerability gives no reward,
a cold way to ever view this world,
but what's to be expected,
when all you've known is abandonment,
since you were just but a small child,
caught between the past and present,
knowing which parts of your mind and soul you must heal,
wishing it were simpler,
wishing it could happen so much faster,
wishing pain didn't bring you to moments,
upon the floor,
resting on your knees with your own arms wrapped about you,
never meaning to project,
your own expectations onto the one that you care for,
beating yourself up once again,
for every mistake,
as if everyone else lives and breathes,
without their own regret,
slipping to fear of raking the risk in letting anyone close,
wouldn't it be easiest to be alone,
for no trust then is needed to earn,
and there couldn't be another who disappoints,
overlooking your own deserving boundaries,
giving too much,
forgiving more than they deserve,
because you know you've got scars,
and if maybe this once you overlook theirs,
if you give of yourself,
then they'll love you for yours too,
shifting perspective takes time,
takes moments to yourself,
learning who you are,
intuitively inspiring to embrace the confidence that already exists inside,
and what others have done,
doesn't define your core,
your spirit still thrives,
a chance is worth it,
in the right moment,
to trust without proof or reassurance in every moment,
that you could be vulnerable,
let someone close,
and they'd be strong enough to help you feel safe,
to see your worth,
without you needing to prove,
seeing your boundless compassion,
no longer a child who's spontaneity was hindered through hurt,
but a woman who's endured it all,
who loves on a level of vast depth,
created by each moment experienced,
emotionally courageous,
hopeful for things the world says no longer exists...
